The government has vowed to provide food aid to Kenyans in areas affected by drought as food distribution intensified Thursday in Moyale, Marsabit County. Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes Geoffrey Ruku delivered the message during a relief mission targeting drought-affected communities across Kenya’s arid and semi-arid lands. “We have enough food for Kenyans,” Ruku said during an address at Baraza Park. “That’s why I am in Moyale today to make sure no one is left out and no household goes hungry.”

CS Ruku’s visit comes as part of a national effort aligned with Executive Order No. 1 of 2025, which assigned his ministry the responsibility of spearheading humanitarian support and long-term social programs in vulnerable regions. The government has identified 23 counties as severely impacted by prolonged drought and food shortages. CS Ruku confirmed that mapping has been completed to ensure targeted delivery of emergency supplies to households most in need. “This is a continuous operation to protect lives and uphold dignity, especially in communities hardest hit by climate and economic shocks,” CS Ruku said.

CS Ruku was joined in Moyale by a delegation of leaders including Moyale MP Prof. Jaldessa Guyo, Marsabit Woman Representative Waqo Naomi, Garissa Woman Representative Amina Uudgoon, North Horr MP Adhe Wario, and Mandera South MP Haro Abdul. The leaders backed the government’s response strategy and urged unity during the recovery period.

Highlighting progress beyond relief, CS Ruku announced the planned opening of a Huduma Centre in Moyale. The center is expected to expand access to essential services including ID registration, birth certificates, and public welfare programs.

“We’re decentralizing services so that Kenyans don’t have to travel far for government support,” Ruku said. “The Huduma Centre will bring dignity and convenience to this region.”

While in Moyale, the CS Ruku also inaugurated a new administration block at St. Mary’s Mixed Day Secondary School, a project funded through the National Government Constituency Development Fund under MP Guyo.

Turning to education, CS Ruku emphasized that the Ruto administration has hired 76,000 teachers since 2022, with an additional 24,000 to be employed in January. He noted that new Junior Secondary School classrooms have been constructed countrywide and that the revised university funding model aims to support students from low-income families.

“The education reforms are not just promises they are being implemented to open doors for every Kenyan child,” CS Ruku stated.

CS Ruku also pointed to ongoing road projects in northern Kenya, especially in Marsabit and Garissa, as evidence of the government’s plan to link isolated communities with major trade corridors and promote regional economic growth.

“We are building roads that connect people, open up markets, and create jobs. These are the foundations of lasting change,” Ruku said.

The Moyale operation is part of the “Huduma Smart Serikalini” outreach campaign under the theme Fresh Approach, Timeless Impact. The initiative focuses on strengthening government presence in marginalized areas through food aid, infrastructure development, education support, and decentralized service delivery.

“This administration is walking the talk,” said Ruku. “We are not just talking about change we are delivering it where it’s needed most.”

The Marsabit mission reinforces the government’s broader humanitarian agenda and commitment to ensure no Kenyan is left behind as the country recovers from successive seasons of drought and economic pressure.
