Nairobi – Rwanda’s new envoy to Kenya, Ernest Rwamucyo, has pledged to strengthen the already close relationship between Kigali and Nairobi, calling the two nations “bound by history and vision.”

Speaking after presenting his credentials to President William Ruto at State House, Rwamucyo struck a tone of familiarity and optimism. He brought warm greetings from President Paul Kagame, along with a promise to push cooperation further.

“As I undertake my duties, I am conscious of the historic bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two nations,” Rwamucyo said. “They are built on mutual respect, shared values, and a common vision for regional peace, prosperity, and integration.”

A Relationship Anchored in Shared Goals

Kenya and Rwanda have long enjoyed stable relations. Their partnership spans trade, education, infrastructure, and security. Both countries are active members of the East African Community, often aligning on regional development and integration efforts.

“Our partnership is evident in areas such as trade, infrastructure, education, security cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges,” Rwamucyo added, calling Kenya a “strategic partner” in the region.

The High Commissioner said he plans to engage widely during his tour of duty not just with government officials, but also with civil society and business leaders.

He formally presented his letter of credence and a letter of recall for his predecessor, Martin Ngoga, officially marking the beginning of his tenure as Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Kenya.

Diplomatic Momentum Builds

Rwamucyo was one of six new envoys who presented their credentials to President Ruto on Tuesday, in a ceremony that highlighted Kenya’s growing diplomatic footprint. The others were from South Sudan, Sierra Leone, Bangladesh, Dominican Republic, and Singapore.

President Ruto welcomed them with a call to deepen ties in trade, security, and development.

“We will keep growing and strengthening our diplomatic footprints across the globe in pursuit of our mutual interest, benefit, and prosperity,” the President said.

As the region grapples with economic uncertainty and political change, the renewal of such alliances could prove vital. For Rwanda and Kenya, the message was clear: there is more to build, and the foundation is strong.
