Wamuchomba: My Life Is in Danger Amid DCI Probe

Githunguri Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba, arrived at Kiambu Police Station Monday, accompanied by her legal team, following summons from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

She alleges that the government is orchestrating intimidation tactics against her, including threats to her life and the withdrawal of her bodyguards.

Wamuchomba, a vocal critic within the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), has previously accused security agencies of interfering in political and social activities.

In December 2024, she expressed concerns over the country’s shift towards a police state, stating, “People are being intimidated and abducted every day.

We cannot be going to the courts every day to get court orders to allow us to go to church to attend funerals or weddings.”

Her political journey has been marked by significant shifts. Initially a staunch supporter of former President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), Wamuchomba faced hostility in her constituency during pro-BBI campaigns.

In June 2021, she aligned with then-Deputy President William Ruto’s camp, a move that facilitated her election as Githunguri MP in 2022.

Despite her alignment with the current administration, Wamuchomba has remained an outspoken figure, recently opposing government initiatives such as the Affordable Housing plan and criticizing revenue-raising measures in the Finance Act 2023.

Her dissenting stance has led to speculation about her political affiliations and intentions.

In December 2024, Wamuchomba was recognized as the Best MP in Kenya at the Jamhuri Awards, reflecting her active engagement and advocacy on social issues, particularly gender-based violence.

The current developments underscore the escalating tensions between Wamuchomba and the government, highlighting broader concerns about political freedom and the role of security agencies in Kenya’s democratic space.
