Kenya’s rally scene is witnessing a thrilling shift, and at the heart of it is Tinashe Gatimu, an 18-year-old speed sensation determined to leave her mark on the world stage.
As she gears up for the 2025 WRC Safari Rally, set for March 20-23 in Naivasha, Gatimu is not just racing against the clock but also redefining what it means to be a young woman in motorsport.
With her trusted Subaru Impreza GC8 and co-driver — her mother, Caroline Gatimu — by her side, she recently put the car to the test at Twisty Corners. The objective? To fine-tune every element and ensure race readiness for the gruelling challenge ahead.

The Safari Rally is known for its punishing terrain, unpredictable conditions, and the sheer resilience required to conquer it. But for Gatimu, this is more than just another race — it’s a statement.
A Rising Star with a Dream
At just 18, Gatimu’s third appearance in the WRC Safari Rally marks a major milestone in her career. Competing in one of the toughest rally events on the global circuit, she stands tall among a field of over 50 elite drivers.
“Today, we are out here testing the car to improve on the things we need to work on. For me, it’s also about getting physically ready for the event. Competing in the WRC is an amazing feeling,” she said. “So far, we have changed the engine, and it’s performing well. Next, we will tune to give us more kick-off power.”

Gatimu is not just racing for personal glory. She is carrying the hopes of a nation, a generation of young Kenyan female drivers who dream of taking on the world’s biggest stages.
Women Driving Change in Motorsport
Gatimu’s journey echoes a broader transformation in Kenya’s motorsport scene, where more women are taking the wheel — literally and figuratively. Motorsport is no longer just a man’s game. With increased visibility, female drivers like Gatimu inspire a new wave of talent ready to challenge the norm.
Her success also speaks to the vibrancy of Kenya’s motor industry, which is experiencing a renaissance fueled by corporate backing and an enthusiastic fan base. The KCB Racing Team, which Gatimu proudly represents, recently secured a KSh 23 million sponsorship from KCB, underscoring the growing investment in the sport.
She stands alongside African Rally Champion Karan Patel, Nikhil Sachania, and Evans Kavisi — a formidable team ready to dominate the Safari Rally.
A Nation Watches as Gatimu Gears Up for History
As the countdown to the WRC Safari Rally intensifies, all eyes are on Gatimu and her Subaru GC8. Will she conquer the unforgiving Naivasha terrain? Will she prove that age and gender are no barriers to success? One thing is certain: Tinashe Gatimu is not just racing for a title — she is racing for history.
As she lines up on the WRC grid in March, she carries with her the dreams of countless young girls who, like her, dare to chase speed and success on their terms.
