Former United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Cleophas Malala recently revealed that his son and brother-in-law were kidnapped and tortured in an apparent attempt to locate him or his wife.
Malala claimed that the two were held for six hours by unidentified assailants before being dumped on Thika Road.
This incident occurred amid increasing political tension following Malala’s removal from his position as UDA Secretary-General on August 2, 2024. His ouster, widely regarded as politically motivated, saw Hassan Omar take over in an interim capacity.
Adding to the political drama is Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who has been facing growing calls for impeachment.
The rift between Gachagua and President William Ruto has become public, with Gachagua alleging that a plot to remove him from office has been orchestrated by high-ranking figures in government.
Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has criticized the impeachment talk surrounding Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, labeling it a distraction from the more pressing issues of corruption and inefficiency within the Kenya Kwanza government.
She argued that the impeachment agenda is being used to divert attention from public discontent and highlighted that any such motion lacks a strong foundation and would likely fail.
Wamuchomba, a supporter of Gachagua, emphasized that despite his limited backing in Parliament, she and others would defend him, framing the impeachment effort as an attempt to sow division within Mount Kenya leadership
While Gachagua insists that such a motion would require the president’s approval, multiple leaders, including Uasin Gishu MP Gladys Shollei, have confirmed that the impeachment process is underway.
Shollei stated that she would personally oversee the motion to ensure that Ruto remains untouched by political turbulence.
Gachagua, meanwhile, has expressed disappointment with President Ruto for not preventing what he perceives as efforts to sideline him.
He recently claimed that he and his team were excluded from the president’s official schedule and expressed frustration over being portrayed as absent from key government events.
