A group of Nairobi youths, led by Kasmuel McOure, arrived at Nyeri’s Hillside Endarasha Academy on Thursday, September 11, to protest the dormitory fire that killed 21 schoolchildren aged 9-12, with many still reportedly unaccounted for.
The tragedy that occurred late last week created outrage across the country with questions arising on the safety of boarding schools as cases of school fires are on the rise.
Before their arrival, Kasmuel and the accompanying activists from Nairobi alleged that the road accessing the institution was blocked by the police and local goons to impede their campaign for accountability and justice for the victims of the tragedy.

Speaking after arriving at the school, Kasmuel commended the solidarity of the Kenyan youth and thanked those who were able to arrive urging them to keep the fury for justice burning.
“There should be a total shutdown in the country if even one child’s life is lost under mysterious circumstances,” he urged the group.
Kasmuel is arguably among the most outspoken activists in the country agitating for change, accountability, and better governance.
On Wednesday, September 11, he was among the activists who stood in solidarity with Kenya Airport Authority staff as they protested the Adani Airport deal which saw operations paralysed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
