A devastating fire claimed the lives of a Form 4 student and an intern at Sacred Heart Boys Rongai High School in Nakuru County late Friday night, September 20.
The fire, reminiscent of the tragic Endarasha Hillside Academy blaze, tore through a dormitory at night, leaving the community in shock and panic.
Nakuru County Police Commander, Samuel Ndanyi, reported that a KCSE candidate and a trainee died in the dormitory fire while firefighters attempted to extinguish the flames and rescue them.
The student had been preparing to sit for his 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, while the intern’s identity has yet to be confirmed.
This incident is in the wake of a tragic fire at Endarasha Hillside Academy in Nyeri County earlier this month, where 21 children were confirmed dead.
The fire engulfed a dormitory with over 150 pupils inside, leading to the trapping of many students as the blaze spread.
The incident’s aftermath has left parents and authorities grappling with the situation, as dozens of students are still unaccounted for.
The cause of the fire at Sacred Heart Boys Rongai is still under investigation.
Authorities urge schools to review their safety protocols amid rising concerns over school fire outbreaks.
