Co-operative Bank defeated Kingdom Bank 4-2 during their group-stage match in the inter-banks football tournament.
The match at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies on Saturday, September 14, renewed Co-Op’s title hopes following their 2-1 loss to Equity and a 13-0 victory over GT Bank.
“The competition is fairly tough but we have confidence in our team to go all the way,” said Shawn Gedeon of Co-Op Bank, who scored a brace in the match.
“Our brothers from Kingdom Bank played a fast game full of dashes, but our midfield managed to contain the pressure. We are focused on the next match, determined to go to the finals,” added Shawn who is also leading the Golden Boots race with 7 goals in 3 matches to his tally.
Co-Op captain Amolo Gideon added two remarkable goals, leaving the Kingdom’s goalkeeper helpless and sealing Shawn’s penalty and well-executed set piece. Amolo now has six goals in the Golden Boots race.
Kingdom’s Kelvin Njenga and Odongo Anton managed to claw back 2 goals before the referee’s final whistle to keep Kingdom’s goal difference favourable. Co-Op’s next match will be against HF Bank, to be played on Tuesday, September 17, at UON Lower Kabete.
HF beat Gulf Bank 3-1, with a hat-trick by Emmanuel Ngene, in their last match held on Saturday and are promising a tough game against Co-Op Bank.
Equity defeated GT Bank 8-0 at UON Lower Kabete over the weekend, solidifying their status as favorites.
