Tyler Onyango has joined Stockport County on a season-long loan from Premier League side Everton.

The lanky midfielder featured in Stockport’s season opener over the weekend against Cambridge United, coming off the bench (73′) to help his side secure a 2-0 win.

Kyle Wootton (76′) and Louie Barry (5′) were on target to hand manager Dave Challinor three points from their first fixture.

Onyango, who can also be deployed as a defender, has five caps with England U17 and has been on Harambee Stars watchlist.

The Hatters confirmed Onyango’s signing with Football Director Simon Wilson describing him as a perfect fit for the League One side.

“Tyler brings a good deal of quality, physicality, and versatility, which we think will suit our team and the league. We expect him to settle in well, as he already knows a good few of the squad, and our character references have been very good,

“Our thanks go to Everton for their support of the loan deal and for choosing us as the right club for Tyler’s development,” said Wilson.

Onyango, born in Luton with Kenyan heritage, has had his progress closely observed both domestically and internationally over the last few years.

In 2021, the 21-year-old player made his senior debut for the Toffees in the FA Cup match against Sheffield Wednesday.

Tyler then made his Premier League debut later that year as a substitute against Manchester City. He also appeared in matches against Chelsea and Aston Villa during the 2021/22 season.

Following loan spells at Burton Albion and Forest Green Rovers, Onyango returned to Everton last year where he made 10 appearances for the academy team.

Onyango was born in England in 2003 to a Kenyan father and English mother and is still eligible to represent Kenya should he choose to.
