Deadline Day: Here we go! Sancho to Chelsea, Sterling to Arsenal

Sancho Sterling

English Premier League club, Chelsea, have officially announced the acquisition of 24-year-old winger Jadon Sancho from Manchester United.

The deal involves a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for a reported fee of £20-25 million (Ksh3.4 – 4.2 billion), contingent on performance milestones.

Chelsea intends to utilize the England international primarily on the left flank.

In a separate transfer development, Arsenal has secured the services of 29-year-old winger Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.

Sterling successfully underwent a medical examination and completed the necessary formalities to exit Chelsea on a season-long loan.

The agreement was finalized just before the transfer deadline, with the deal sheet being extended until 1 am UK time to facilitate the transfer window deadline transfer.

As a result, Raheem Sterling is now officially an Arsenal player.

Sancho, who has been a stark shade of the bright player he was in his days at Dortmund, showed sparks of his former brilliant self while on loan at Dortmund before heading back to Carrington during preseason.

Despite a strong preseason, Erik ten Hag has not prioritized Sancho in his plans, and Sancho has struggled to find his footing at Old Trafford, falling short of expectations for one of England’s most hyped prospects alongside Jude Bellingham.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta revealed that he still strongly admires wantaway Chelsea striker Raheem Sterling.

The Arsenal boss said he had a strong relationship with the English forward and that he learned a lot about man management and individual differences from him.

“My time with Raheem was exceptional. We built a really strong relationship together. He was unbelievable at the time we were together. He taught me a lot as well, about individuals, how players think, and how we support them. He is someone I have really strong feelings about,”Mikel Arteta said in his pre-match presser.

If we are to read into the former Manchester assistant coach’s words, Arteta is of the inkling that Sterling is still a quality player who can strengthen any side he joins.

The winger is likely to seek a reunion with a manager who knows him well and helped him excel during their time at Manchester City.

Sterling already pointing his eyes towards Emirates, said he desired to remain in London, limiting his potential teams to a select few — Arsenal or Crystal Palace.

Sterling signed for Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 for £50m (Ksh7.2b).

Arteta knows this lad inside and out, how he ticks, and how to restore him to prime form.

Sancho is now Blue, and Sterling is Red. Let’s see what other twists the August 31 transfer window will bring.
