Ruto Nominates Dorcas Oduor as Attorney General

President William Ruto has put forward the nomination of Dorcas Oduor for the esteemed position of Attorney General (AG). Currently serving as the Secretary of Public Prosecutions at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Oduor brings a wealth of experience and a strong educational background to the role.

Oduor, a High Court advocate, holds a Master’s degree in International Conflict Management and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi. She also earned a Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. Her professional journey at the ODPP has been marked by a series of significant positions, including Deputy Director, Head of the Economic, International, and Emerging Crimes Department, Deputy Chief State Counsel, and State Counsel at the Office of the Attorney General.

President Ruto highlighted Oduor’s exemplary qualifications in his nomination to the Cabinet, stating, “Senior Counsel Oduor has demonstrated unimpeachable integrity, impressive professional competence, and steadfast commitment to the rule of law. If approved by the National Assembly, Dorcas Agik Oduor will become our nation’s first female Attorney General.”

The president has also nominated Beatrice Askul for the position of CS for EAC & Regional Development

The nomination of Dorcas Oduor is a historic move, poised to break new ground in Kenya’s legal landscape. Her approval by the National Assembly would mark a significant milestone in the nation’s pursuit of gender equality and representation in high-ranking government positions.
