The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK), widely known as Posta Kenya, has announced a significant increase in the annual subscription rates for its MPost virtual addresses, effective from July 5, 2024. This digital address system, developed by the Kenyan tech start-up MPost, transforms mobile numbers into virtual addresses, enhancing postal and e-commerce logistics across the country.
According to a notice shared by Posta Kenya CEO John Tonui on Thursday, the cost of virtual boxes for corporate entities has surged dramatically from Ksh.400 to Ksh.9,450 per year. Similarly, individual virtual addresses will now be priced at Ksh.2,000, up from the previous Ksh.400.
“PCK wishes to inform our esteemed customers and the general public that the rates for MPost Virtual Boxes/Addresses for both Corporate and Individual have been adjusted with effect from July 5, 2024,” said Tonui.
This latest revision in subscription prices follows an earlier hike in March 2023, when the cost was increased from Ksh.300 to Ksh.400. The new pricing structure represents a substantial rise, reflecting the growing demand and operational costs associated with maintaining and expanding the digital address system.
MPost, a product of innovation from the Kenyan tech scene, converts mobile numbers into official virtual addresses. This service allows clients to receive notifications whenever they receive mail through their digitized postal office boxes, streamlining the mail delivery process and integrating it with modern communication technologies.
In a notable development late last year, MPost announced its decision to relocate its headquarters from Nairobi to Kigali. The move was attributed to the more favorable business environment for tech start-ups in Rwanda. Since its founding in 2016, MPost had been based in Nairobi, where it quickly gained traction for its innovative approach to postal services.
As Posta Kenya continues to adapt to the evolving needs of its customers and the digital landscape, the increased rates aim to support the sustainability and growth of the MPost service. Customers are encouraged to embrace these changes and continue leveraging the benefits of the virtual address system.
For more information on the new rates and how to subscribe, customers can visit the Posta Kenya website or contact their nearest postal office.
