The Kenya national rugby sevens team, Shujaa, suffered a 31-12 defeat against Argentina in their first match at the 2024 Paris Olympics games.
Despite a strong start, Kenya couldn’t maintain its momentum and struggled in the later stages of the second half after succumbing to Argenotina’s pressure.
Shujaa drew first blood with a try from Chrisant Ojwang but Argentina’s resilience shifted the momentum before halftime.

Los Pumas drew level with a try from Agustin Fraga, following sustained pressure in Kenya’s 22, leaving them just two points behind at the break.
In the second half, a dominant Argentina took the lead with a quick recycle that caught Kenya’s defence off guard, making the score 12-7.
Kevin Wekesa’s try pulled Shujaa level at 12-12 after a quick turnover and a well-executed inside pass by Ojwang.
Argentina took the lead as Luciano Gonzalez, the raging bull, broke through Kenya’s defence to set up Tomas Elizalde for their third try. Joaquin Pellandini converted, extending the score to 19-12.

Despite Kenya’s efforts, Argentina increased their lead to 26-12 with another brilliant play by Luciano Gonzalez.
To cap off an impressive second half, Marcos Moneta, the star of Tokyo 2020, scored Argentina’s final try, securing a 31-12 victory.
Shujaa will regroup before their next game against Australia at 8:00 p.m.
This will be a crucial test for Kenya after Australia established itself as a strong contender for gold after their 21-14 victory over Samoa in Pool B.
