This Monday morning, the major theory examinations for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) formally got underway.
To supervise the distribution of examination materials, Ministry of Education representatives showed up early at several exam collection locations. Approximately 903,260 candidates nationwide who registered for the KCSE this year will begin working on the Chemistry paper on Monday at 8 a.m., followed by the English (functional skills) paper at 2 p.m. English paper 2 (Comprehension, Literary Appreciation, and Grammar) will be written by the students tomorrow, Tuesday, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.

At the Westlands DCC centre, the exercise was managed by Basic Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang, and at the Mombasa County Mvita centre, Teachers Service Commission (CEO) Nancy Macharia was in charge of distributing the exams. Margaret Lesuuda, the regional director of education for Nairobi, accompanied Kipsang as he urged the exam centre managers to soften their rigorous behaviour toward the students and let them be kids.

Kipsang and Lesuuda observed as the container was opened and the centre supervisors went to each student’s classroom one by one to collect papers as the bell rang.

For the KCSE, the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is deploying 567 distribution containers, an increase of 82 over the previous year. Physics practicals will conclude the nationwide exam, which is scheduled to run until November 24. Last week, we completed a variety of practicals, including orals in French, German, Arabic, Kenya Sign Language, and music.
