Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga has dispelled rumors of endorsing Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka as the coalition’s presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Odinga’s spokesperson, Dennis Onyango, made this clear in a statement issued today.

“Mr. Odinga, therefore, clarifies that his praise for H.E. Kalonzo Musyoka should not be interpreted as an endorsement of Mr. Musyoka as the Azimio presidential candidate in 2027,” Onyango said.
“Rather, the praise was an acknowledgment and appreciation of past deeds that are in the public domain.” He added.
During Siaya senator Oburu Oginga’s birthday celebration in Bondo, Siaya County, Odinga addressed the issue directly, responding to President William Ruto’s recent remarks speculating on Kalonzo’s candidacy in 2027.
“He (Ruto) wants to divide us with talk about who will run for the presidency, yet we ourselves have not announced anything. We will show him he knows nothing; we will stand with Kalonzo because he is an honest person,” Odinga stated.
Odinga went on to highlight the importance of allowing all aspiring presidential candidates an equal chance within the coalition.
“The coalition believes in giving all aspiring presidential candidates an equal chance, and the coalition’s presidential candidate for 2027 will only be announced a year or so before the elections,” he affirmed.
In a surprising twist, Odinga also expressed his confidence in Kalonzo Musyoka’s abilities to compete effectively against President Ruto if the two were to contest the election.
This came as a direct response to President Ruto’s claim that Odinga owed him a political debt.
“Mr. Odinga, however, believes that Mr. Musyoka has what it takes to beat Hon. William Ruto in a free and fair presidential contest, contrary to Mr. Ruto’s recent claim that he would easily beat the Wiper leader,” Onyango stated.
President Ruto had earlier stated, “I voted for ‘Agwambo’ (Raila Odinga) and he has never voted for me. I will now wait for his vote in the 2027 General Elections because if he’s not running, I will be running alongside Kalonzo Musyoka.”
Odinga, in his response, pledged his continued active involvement in party and national politics all the way through to the 2027 elections.
