One of Kenya’s celebrated couples has officially announced they are parting ways. Phil Director and Kate Actress both posted on their respective social media pages a joint statement confirming their separation.
“We came to a conclusion to end our marriage a long time ago and are separated. We sincerely request everyone to honor our wishes and privacy for us and our children.”
Kenyans have since reacted to their announcement. What most people seem to miss is the similarity between their separation announcement and that of Hollywood ex-couple Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert.
The ex-couple copy-pasted the entire manner in which Teyana and Iman announced their separation. In fact, Phil Director went on to add to his joint statement something similar to what Teyana posted on her social media pages.
“Hii ni mambo ya watu wawili, but allow us to add you to the group chat kidogo, so we can proceed with our lives bila story mob. Kate Actress and I remain as friends, co-parents, and business partners.”
On Sunday, Teyana took to her social media pages to share that Iman and her were separated and had been for a while. She added that they chose to handle the separation out of the public eye and only included the public when the rumours got out of hand.
“In all fairness, Iman and I are separated and have been for a while. To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure. We are still the best of friends, great business partners, and are one hell of a team when it comes to co-parenting our 2 beautiful children.”

Kate Actress and Phil Director met back in 2012 at the set of Mother-in-law. In 2017, they had their lavish wedding at the Windsor Golf Club Hotel and went to Seychelles for their honeymoon.
In 2019, the couple welcomed their first child together, their daughter, Njeri Karanja. The couple also has a son who Kate had from another relationship before Phil. In early 2023, Kate Actress deleted all traces of Phil from her Instagram.
The ex-couple dispelled rumours of them being divorced by posting a video of themselves together. On September 19, the couple confirmed that they had been separated and asked for privacy as they go through the next phase of their lives.
