Nigerian Afrobeats artist is making history again. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun also known as Wizkid is one of the forefront Afrobeats artists who have succeeded in sharing the music genre globally.
The “Starboy” hitmaker has now surpassed 6 billion streams on Spotify across all credits. Making him the first African artist to reach this milestone. Earlier this month, He became the first African artist to win the BRIT Billion Awards.
This was after he held a concert that sold out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and marveled the crowd with his electrifying performance. Wizkid has played a major role in catapulting Afrobeats globally.
In 2015, his single “Oguelegba” gained international attention which saw him collaborate with global music sensations. He featured in Drake’s One Dance which became the first song to cross 1 billion streams in Spotify.

He released his fourth album, Made In Lagos in 2020 had his hit single Essence featuring Tems and Justin Bieber. The song made the top ten on the Billboard Charts. The album became the first Nigerian album to be certified RIAA Gold and the song Essence has been certified three times platinum.
He has also done collaborations with Beyoncé and Major Laser. This has heavily contributed to the huge streams he has gotten. With five albums and a massive and growing global fan base, Wizkid has become an international figure.
