The launch occurred on 3rd August, 2023, simultaneously with the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week, matched perfectly with the theme “Enabling breastfeeding: Making a difference for working parents.”

She praised MP Shah Hospital for its commendable efforts in reducing maternal mortality and improving newborn outcomes.
The newly launched Maternity Wing, along with the integrated maternal and child health services at KPJ Medical Center, aligns together with the Ministry of Health goals to increase access to skilled deliveries, comprehensive antenatal care, and full immunization for children.
This has been proof with the government’s allocation of 4.1 billion KSH to the Linda Mama Free Maternity Program.
This initiative has been instrumental in offering vital antenatal, delivery, and postnatal care, benefiting nearly one million women annually.
“We have stopped asking ourselves “why do women die?’ because we know ‘why women die’,” she said.
“Babies whose mothers die at childbirth have minimal chances of living to see their 1st birthday. This has led to concerted efforts to reduce maternal deaths and have healthy babies,” the CS said.
