The Senator of Nairobi, Edwin Sifuna has suggested that the opposition coalition will intensify their anti-government protests starting from next week from Monday to Wednesday.
In a live show on Citizen television, Sifuna expressed their decision as a response to what he perceives as a lack of the Kenya Kwanza-led administration’s attentiveness to the concerns of Kenyans.
“From next week, we will have three consecutive days of protests from Monday to Wednesday until President Ruto listens to Kenyans,” he declared.
The demonstrations that were held on Wednesday saw people take to the streets to protest against the high cost of living and what they viewed as burdensome taxation laid on Kenyans.
Raila Odinga, who had planned to address his supporters at Nairobi’s Kamukunji ground, later called off the demonstrations due to intelligence reports suggesting the presence of hired goons and potential police violence against his supporters.
“Police have blocked Kamukunji where they were shooting at people and using tear gas,” Odinga reported. “Even our people who were sent there to set up a dais were dispersed,” he added, speaking to the media from his Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation offices.

Senator Sifuna subsequently disclosed alleged government plans to arrest opposition leaders who led the Wednesday protests.
“Kenya Kwanza cannot order the arrest of Raila,” he said.
In response to the protest that took place, the Interior Cabinet Secretary took a firm stance, vowing to take action against all those involved in enabling the demonstrations.
“The government has mobilized all law enforcement agencies and institutions of our country’s criminal justice system to expedite investigations and proceed with the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the planning and execution of these crimes,” stated Kindiki.
