Former First Lady, Mama Ngina’s security has been withdrawn at her Gatundu and Muthaiga homes.
According to officials, Mama Ngina, the former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mother had her security withdrawn on Tuesday evening at about 5 pm. They were removed by officers from the General Service Unit and Administration Police who told them to report to the nearest police station.
In addition to this, the officials stated that Mama Ngina was not notified of the withdrawal of her security detail before its implementation.
One of the officers who called their withdrawal said that they were being withdrawn for a debriefing but would be back. He, however, did not mention the timeline of their return.
Before the first withdrawal last year, she had a total of 30 officers guarding all her premises. The senior official back then was the chief inspector. She was left with eight officers the senior most being a senior sergeant. The eight officials have now been recalled.
Response to the withdrawal of Mama Ngina’s security
Mutahi Ngunyi responded to the withdrawal of security detail from Mama Ngina. In addition to this, he went ahead to advise Ruto by mentioning that it was a bad move for him to do this.
“Dear Ruto: Crowds are unreasonable. Today they will attack Mama Ngina in Muthaiga. Tomorrow they will look for your mother wherever she will be. No difference between you and Uhuru. If you start this trend, it will not stop. Fight as men and leave our mothers out of it. Please,” Ngunyi said.

Alongside Mama Ngina, other Azimio MPs and officials’ protective detail has been withdrawn. Raila Odinga as well as Kalonzo Musyoka’s security has also been withdrawn prior to the protests happening from today, Wednesday till Friday.
The opposition, however, claimed that the government used this move as an intimidation tactic to stop the protests. They therefore called for the protests regardless of the threats issued to them by the government.
