Kenya’s neighbours urged not to supply Ruto ammunition

Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition appeals to neighbouring countries not to supply Ruto with ammunition and teargas used to quell protests. Consequently, they ask neighbours not to support the violent actions Kenya’s security allegedly plans to use to stop protests.

Azimio in a statement read by NARC Kenya Party leader, Martha Karua, urged countries not to support what they term as President Ruto’s ‘war against Kenyans.’ The statement was read while addressing the media ahead of the three-day protests beginning today.

“Ruto is at war, not just with Azimio but with the entire Kenyan population especially those who do not support him. We appeal to our neighbours in the region not to join Ruto’s war against Kenyans. Our neighbours must not supply Ruto with teargas and ammunition to fight Kenyans,” said Karua.

The coalition has called for Kenyans to assemble in large numbers on Wednesday. Furthermore, she went ahead to call Kenyans to take part in what is termed as the ‘sufuria movement’ against the actions by the government.

Reason against ammunition supply to Kenya

The statement comes after a standoff at the border town of Busia. Residents are said to have stopped a trailer from Uganda on suspicion that it was carrying ammunition/weapons.

Officials therefore responded to the standoff by saying that the trailer was from Uganda under heavy military supervision. Its driver was attempting to enter the country without passing it through the inspection area. The officials then detained the truck and the area residents camped around the area, demanding that the truck be opened before it was cleared to enter the country.

In that same area, there were policemen patrolling, armed with guns and tear gas canisters.

The ‘sufuria movement’ announced by Martha Karua, is a call to Kenyans to leave their homes in the afternoon and begin to bang their ‘sufurias’ as loud as possible.
