Kalonzo and Raila’s Security Withdrawn

Raila

The government has withdrawn Azimio party leaders, Kalonzo and Raila’s security ahead of the three-day planned protests this week.

Approximately 10 police officers protect Raila, Azimio’s party leader, in his daily duties. Inclusive of this, they protect his homes in Nairobi, Kisumu and Siaya. The security given to Kalonzo, Wiper leader, as well as 50 other Azimio MPs has also been withdrawn by the state.

The withdrawal comes a few days after Raila raised concerns on Sunday over claims that the government has hatched a plan to harm the Azimio leaders when they lead the demonstrations this week.

” Our security has been withdrawn without notice… we don’t care our security comes from God…” said Wandayi.

” Starting on Wednesday, be ready for the game-changing maandamano. Tumechoka” tweeted Raila

Four Nyanza governors have also had their security withdrawn, They have been asked to report to Kisumu ahead of the planned countrywide three-day mass demonstrations. Earlier on, the Azimio MPs held a Parliamentary Group meeting and insisted that the protests will go on as planned despite the intimidation posed.

Reason for withdrawal of security

The claim of their lives being in danger comes after Raila alleged that the police called to disrupt demonstrations has been infiltrated by a killer squad. Whose aim is to directly incapacitate organisers of the protests.

” He will die on Wednesday and be buried on Saturday,” Tweeted Moses Kuria.

This tweet has however raised concerns all around with people questioning the legitimacy of it. Further than that, the court failed to deny the petition filed that would stop the protests. The court did not agree with the petition and so the protests would go on for three days as planned by Azimio leaders.

According to the Kenya Kwanza government, the withdrawal of the protective detail from Azimio leaders is to increase personnel to help control the demonstrations. They are allegedly maximising the ability to protect both the protesters and the citizens from the destruction of property and harm. They claim not to have sufficient personnel to achieve this and so the withdrawal of security is to help facilitate the protests.
