Cristiano Ronaldo Says That Saudi League is Better Than MLS

Cristiano Ronaldo has thrown shade at Messi’s move to Inter Miami, claiming that the Saudi Pro League he plays for is better than Major League Soccer(MLS).

Ronaldo’s comments come just a day after Lionel Messi officially signed a contract with Inter Miami of Major League Soccer. Following the announcement a few weeks ago that Lionel Messi would be joining the Florida-based club in a Ksh 8.3 billion per year agreement, the 36-year-old Argentine was yesterday seen on stage at an event alongside Inter Miami’s co-owner David Beckham and was handed his new club shirt.

After his contract with Manchester United was terminated in December of last year, Ronaldo made an unexpected move to Al-Nassr, a Saudi Pro League team. Ronaldo hails himself as a trailblazer as his move to Saudi Arabia prompted more high-profile players to follow suit including Steven Gerrard, the former captain of Liverpool, Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Roberto Firmino who moved to different clubs in the Saudi Pro League.

Speaking after a preseason friendly match where his team was beaten 5-0 by Celta Vigo at Faro, Portugal, Ronaldo ruled out the possibility that he would ever make a return to playing European football. He claimed that most leagues had declined in quality.

The Spanish league does not have that great quality. The Portuguese league is a good league, but it is not a top, top league. The German league I think has also lost a lot. I’m sure I won’t play in Europe again. I want to play in Saudi Arabia
