Messi has broken the record for most FIFA Player of the Year awards won, with 7. He tied Cristiano Ronaldo’s record of 6 awards in 2022 and then won his 7th award in 2023.
Messi’s record-breaking 7th FIFA Player of the Year award was announced on January 17, 2023. He received 613 points in the voting, ahead of Robert Lewandowski (580 points) and Mohamed Salah (476 points).

Lionel Messi has broken the record for most IFFHS Best Playmaker awards. He has won the award a record 5 times, surpassing Xavi Hernandez who had won the award 4 times. Messi won the award in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022. He was also named the IFFHS World’s Best Player in 2022.

Messi has broken the record for most major international Player of the Tournament (POTT) awards. He has won the award 6 times, more than any other player in history. He won the award for the first time in 2007, when Argentina won the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
He has also won the award at the Copa América in 2007, 2015, and 2021, and at the FIFA World Cup in 2014.
