The husband to slain athlete Agnes Tirop is set to remain in custody for another 61 days as ruled by the Eldoret High Court.
Ibrahim Rotich is accused of stabbing his wife, Agnes Tirop, to death at their home in Iten, Elgeyo Marakwet County. Yesterday, Judge Robert Wananda of the Eldoret High Court ordered the suspect to stay in custody until a decision about his bail application was made. His hearing on bail application has been set for October 9 this year. He was arrested on October 15, 2021, after police found Tirop’s lifeless body in their home and has since then been under police custody.

Agnes Tirop caused an uproar over cases of gender-based violence with several notable figures speaking up against the murder of the record-breaking athlete. Kenya’s former president also condemned the attack on Tirop and said that his government would work towards encouraging efforts of gender equity.
