4 Kenyan Record Holders in the Athletics World

Kenya has been known to produce athletics talents over and over again. With the recent win for Kenya in the 1500m race in Florence, Italy.

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon

Faith Chepngetich Kipyegon, reached the finishing line in 3:49:11 minutes, breaking a previous world record mark of 3:50:07 set by Ethiopia’s Genzebe Dibaba in 2015.

The 29-year-old who has also won both Olympic and world titles spoke after the race, “I said yesterday that I wanted to run a beautiful race, run my race, and see what is possible, and this was possible.’’ The Kenyan champion went on to add, “There is still more to come. I am still working on running faster than that, faster than 3:49 and I am still heading towards beautiful races in the rest of the season.”

Following this win for Kenya, Kipyegon is still focusing her attention on the 5000m race, next week in Paris. After which she will come back to Kenya and train for the Herculis meeting in Monaco in July.

Beatrice Chepkoech

Beatrice Chepkoech Sitonik broke the 8:45 and 8:50 mark for the 3000m steeplechase when she ran 8:44:32 in the 2018 edition of Hercules Meet in Monaco, France.  

Brigid Kosgei

The Iten-based athlete is the current women’s record holder at the 2018 Bank of America Chicago marathon. The champion finished the race with a record of 2:14:04 minutes, breaking Paula Radcliffe’s 16-year-old world record.

Agnes Tirop

The late Agnes Tirop is the current 10km world record in the women’s category. This came after she crossed the finishing line in 30:01 minutes, two years ago in Herzogenaurach, Germany.
