Alberto Salazar, a three times marathon winner in New York City, early in the 1980’s, once said if you learn to be sprinter, you will be a great distance runner.
Ferdinand Omanyala a current African 100m record holder, started an initiative dubbed ‘’Sprinter Achievers’’.
‘’I believe I am not going to be here forever and I do not want to leave a gap in this country. I do not want people to come and say Kenya used to have a sprinter. I want to ensure Kenya is an industry of sprints. I do not want to leave and go with the wave.’’ Said Omanyala during an interview.
The Kipkeino Classic 100m champion also added that his main objective is to have a very good camp, that will even see athletes from abroad come to train in the country. This he said as he called upon the government and private sector to come on board and help support the initiative.

The 27 years old also noted that his initiative would want to train young athletes from as young as 10-12 years old. This he said as he started his career late in his 20’s.
The Sprinter’s academy will for sure leave a legacy after Ferdinand’s retirement. This as many young sprinters will be inspired and trained well for the upcoming competitions in the future.
