Jubilee changes made are void – Kanini Kega

Kanini Kega Sabina Chege Jubilee Party

Kanini Kega, the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) legislator, has dismissed the Jubilee Party changes that were made by Uhuru during the National Delegates Convention (NDC) meeting. and claims they are void and have no legal consequences.

The meeting held today at Ngong Racecourse was not a Jubilee NDC but in fact, it was another political rally.

Kega says during his address

According to Kega, Sabina Chege and himself were the only ones with the legal right to call and chair the meeting. He says so because Uhuru Kenyatta abdicated his role as the leader of the party on March 14, according to the Presidential Retirement Benefits Act, section 6.

Uhuru dismissed Kega and 10 others from the party during the Jubilee NDC meeting primarily owing to their close affiliation to the Kenya Kwanza coalition, in support of President William Ruto. The party has appointed new members to the National Executive Committee (NEC) replacing the rebels.

Changes made are void as Uhuru has no right to

This meeting was held two days after Jeremiah Kioni and David Murathe were dismissed. They were dismissed for gross misconduct and disrespect of party organs. In his speech, Uhuru mentions that it was rather a plot by the rebels to kick him out as party leader.

The Internal Disputes Resolution Committee (IDRC) in its ruling dated May 18, stayed and suspended the notice issued by his Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta. It was published in the print media on April 29 pending the hearing and determination of the dispute challenging the legality of the purpoted NDC.

Kanini Kega says

Kega mentions that Uhuru has no right to call or chair the NDC as he is no longer a leader of the party. Moreover, he points out that the dismissals made have no legal standpoint as Uhuru is in no position to dismiss anyone.

We had our last NDC on 26th Feb 2022. During that NDC, we resolved that we would be members of the Azimio coalition and terminated all forms of cooperation with UDA

Deputy Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni said

According to Kioni, Kega and Chege were the ones in direct violation of the party agreement. Following this agreement, Kioni suggests that Chege along with other MPs that joined the UDA coalition should resign from office as Jubilee MPs.

The Registrar of Political Parties says they will address the legalities of the dismissals made and the decisions arrived at after they have received all the documents.
