Body of missing Fisherman found inside Crocodile

The body of a missing Australian fisherman has been found inside a crocodile after he disappeared while fishing with friends.

The man, identified as Kevin Darmody, aged 65, went missing on Saturday while fishing in Kennedy’s Bend, a known habitat for saltwater crocodiles in a remote area of northern Queensland.

BBC has reported that following a thorough search lasting two days, authorities euthanized two large crocodiles and found human remains.

Mr Darmody was a skilled fisherman and a respected member of the community in Cape York. Two crocodiles, measuring 4.1m and 2.8m, were killed on Monday about 1.5 km from where he was last seen.

One of the crocodiles had human remains inside, but the wildlife officers suspect that both were involved in the attack.

The other fishermen who were with Mr Darmody when he disappeared did not witness the attack. However, they reported hearing him shout out, after which they heard a big splash.

“I raced down… but there was no sign of him, just his thongs [flip-flops] on the bank and nothing else,” his friend John Peiti told the Cape York Weekly.

Crocodiles are a common sight in waterways throughout Australia, especially in the northern regions of the country. While these ancient predators are a vital part of the ecosystem, they can pose a serious threat to humans who venture too close to their habitats.

Over the years, there have been several instances of people being killed by crocodiles in Australia. In 2017, a 79-year-old woman went missing while walking her dog near a creek in Port Douglas, Queensland. Her remains were later found in the creek, and it is believed that a crocodile was responsible for her death.

Similarly, in 2016, a 46-year-old woman was killed by a crocodile while swimming in a lagoon in Daintree National Park, also in Queensland. There have been other cases of crocodile attacks resulting in serious injuries and near-misses.

The authorities have urged the public to take necessary precautions when in the vicinity of crocodiles, including staying away from the water’s edge and heeding warning signs.
