Brendan Rodgers Sacked by Leicester City in the midst of battling Premier League Relegation

Since his appointment in 2019, Brendan Rodgers looked like the perfect man for the job for the once Premier League Champions Leicester City, he now exits the stage as the Foxes fight to avoid relegation.

Leicester City dropped into the bottom three on Saturday following a 2-1 loss against Crystal Palace in what would be Brendan Rodger’s last game as manager. They are currently in 19th position in the Premier League, 2 points ahead of bottom-placed Southampton.

Rodgers is the 11th manager to be shown the door this season in what is arguably the most competitive football league the world over — the English Premier League.

A poor run of form has seen the Foxes not taste a win since a 4-1 win over Tottenham on February 11. That is seven games with no win and one point from their last six.

Brendan Rodgers guided Leicester City to their first FA Cup win in 2021, achieved two of the club’s three highest Premier League finish, consecutive European campaigns including their first semifinal in 2022.

Leicester City chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha said: “The achievements of the team under Brendan’s management speak for themselves – we’ve experienced some of our finest footballing moments under his guidance and will always be grateful to him and his staff for the heights they helped us to reach on the pitch.

“Off the pitch, Brendan embraced the culture of the club and helped cultivate an outstanding developmental environment, particularly during the transition to Seagrave, and provided strong leadership during the unprecedented challenge of the coronavirus pandemic. His place in Leicester City history is assured.

“However, performances and results during the current season have been below our shared expectations. It had been our belief that continuity and stability would be key to correcting our course, particularly given our previous achievements under Brendan’s management.

“Regrettably, the desired improvement has not been forthcoming and, with 10 games of the season remaining, the Board is compelled to take alternative action to protect our Premier League status.

“The task ahead of us in our final 10 games is clear. We now need to come together – fans, players and staff – and show the poise, quality and fight to secure our position as a Premier League club.”

Leicester City will face Aston Villa in a huge home game in the next Premier League fixture on Tuesday with first-team coaches Adam Sadler and Mike Stowell taking charge. Assistant manager Chris Davies and first-team fitness coach Glen Driscoll will also leave their roles.
