Azimio la Umoja has drafted a negotiating team that will represent them in the by-partisan talks and public engagements with the Kenya Kwanza government.

In a press release addressed to the public on Tuesday, April 11, by the coalition through its executive council chair, Wycliffe Oparanya, Azimio leaders are ready to have structured dialogue with the government. The party has appointed Senior Council Paul Otiende Amolo to serve as the chairman, leading the negotiating team.

The Azimio negotiators will hold direct public engagements in town halls and public barazas. The first town hall meeting is set to be held on Thursday, April 13, in Nairobi, after which the team will hold a follow-up public Baraza on Sunday, April 16, at the Kamukunji grounds.

According to the opposition party, the public engagements in the town halls and public barazas are aimed at giving the party a platform to comprehensively explain their current stand and future course of action as far as the suspended mass protests are concerned.

Azimio la Umoja insists that they will not condone the undermining of parliamentary parties and membership during the negotiation talks. The party stands firm on the inclusion and upholding of the letter of fidelity to multipartyism.

The opposition party also assured Kenyans that they are willing to commit to the dialogue initiated with Kenya Kwanza, to come up with plausible solutions for the concerns raised. They also gave assurance of honesty and transparency in representing Kenyans fully in the engagements.

Azimio’s mass protests were suspended on Saturday, April 1 by the party leader Raila Odinga, to give room for dialogues with the Kenya Kwanza administration over several issues of concern to them (Azimio).

These were; the high cost of living and expensive basic commodities (Unga, fuel, electricity, and school fees), opening and audit of the IEBC servers, protection of the letter of fidelity to multipartyism, and the adherence to the principle of inclusivity in the appointment of civil servants.
