The Weeknd Joins Michael Jackson as He Sets Two Guinness World Records

The Weeknd

The Weeknd and Michael Jackson are the only two male artists in history to have multiple #1 hits on the Hot 100 Billboard from three albums.

33-year-old Canadian singer The Weeknd is by far the most popular artist on earth with over 111.4 million monthly listeners (as of 20 March 2023), according to guinessworldrecord.com , and is the first person to reach 100 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Currently, The Weeknd has around 30 million more monthly listeners than Miley Cyrus, who is in second place (82.4 million).

Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80.2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million), and Ed Sheeran, his closest male rival, are all well behind him (77.5 million).

After Beauty Behind the Madness (2015) and After Hours (2016), Starboy is the third album by The Weeknd to produce several number-one singles (2020).

The Weeknd’s rising streaming numbers are the result of the success of his “Die For You” remix, which features Ariana Grande and became a TikTok hit.

The song became the seventh number-one hit for both The Weeknd and Grande when it reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100. Following “Love Me Harder” (2014), “Off the Table” (2020), and the remix of “Save Your Tears (2021),” it is the duo’s fourth joint effort.

Prior to its release Ariana Grande teased a video on TikTok with the caption, “Wrote and recorded a verse for my friend after a 14-hour day on set. This certain exception had to be made…..”

In 2016, The Weeknd made history for the most streamed album on Spotify in 2015, and another award for the most consecutive weeks in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 by a solo male artist.

As of February 2023, “Blinding Lights” from The Weeknd’s fourth album, After Hours, remains the most streamed track on Spotify, with over 3.4 billion streams. The song ousted Ed Sheeran’s “Shape of You” which had held the top spot since September 2017.
