According to theAthetic, LaLiga has said that a Spanish court is investigating match-fixing in a Copa del Rey fixture between CD Huracan Melilla and Levante. Levante won 8-0.

According to police, all six are Spaniards. At the time Levante was a top-league team whereas CD Huracan Melilla are a fifth-tier club. An anonymous whistleblower informed Spanish LaLiga about the alleged match-fixing in the Copa Del Rey fixture.

The National Police Center for Sports Integrity and Gambling (CENPIDA) has received a complaint from LaLiga prompting the investigation and detaining of the six.

A club statement by Levante reads,

“Levante received today the first news via La Liga’s statement about the existence of an investigation related to the Copa del Rey match of the 2021-22 season between CD Huracan Melilla and our club.

“Levante announce that no players from our team and no members of our club have received communication of any sort in relation to the facts of the complaint, as is said in the statement from La Liga, where it emphasizes that Levante are totally outside events which have been reported and, as a result, have stayed out of the investigation.”
