To make their wedding more memorable, a Philippines couple April and Irwin decided to ditch the usual flower arrangement and use a bouquet of onions instead.
When most brides are looking to walk down the altar with the perfect dress and a big bouquet in hand, April Lyka, a 28-year-old Philippines bride had other plans in mind. She and Irwin, her husband-to-be at the time opted to settle for onions in place of the usual flower arrangements during their wedding on January 21.
The couple made the decision last minute, only four days into their big day. This big move was attributed to the fact that the prices of onions in the country had escalated seven times as compared to the prices in the previous six months, rising the current price to Ksh 1,300 per kilogram.

April, the bride’s onion bouquet weighed 11 pounds, which is approximately 4 kilograms. Her bridesmaids had similar matching bouquets. The groom and his men were not left behind either as they came in with the onion boutonnieres to match. According to April, onions were luxury, hence her decision to use them for a bouquet.
The move to substitute flower bouquets for onions led the couple to become an internet sensation, with many people looking to emulate their trend in their weddings.

If you think about it, considering flowers are very expensive, maybe this move was not all bad on their side.
