Casemiro opened the scoring inside 30 minutes from a Luke Shaw freekick, with United extending their lead after just 5 minutes. Marcus Rashford’s shot off Sven Botman and past Loris Karius in the Newcastle goal saw United take a deserved lead in the Carabao Cup final.
Speaking to SkySports after the fixture, captain Bruno Fernandes said, “It’s an amazing feeling, we’ve been searching for this moment,
“Finally we get our trophy. We deserved it. But now we want more. This is not enough for this club. We want more, we need more. It’s about winning trophies. We did it. I’m satisfied now I have my trophy but I want more.”
The Carabao Cup win cements an excellent turnaround by United manager Erik Ten Hag in just over 10 months.
