Kenyan football is getting back on track as FKF Cup gets a new sponsorship deal. Details of the sponsor are yet to be revealed.
The FKF Cup was set to resume this weekend, without a sponsor, from the Round of 32. However, the start date has been pushed to March 3 as the deal approaches its final stages.
“We must first finalize the agreement (with the sponsor) that’s when we can reveal the details,” FKF Head of Communications, Pharis Kimaru, said.
Sports betting giants Betway sponsored the 2021 edition. Gor Mahia emerged champions after a gruelling deadlocked final. Eventually, AFC Leopards lost 4-1 on penalties. K’Ogalo won Ksh 2 million, AFC won Ksh 1 million and Bidco United, in third place, got Ksh 750,000.
The FKF Cup will be contested by 11 FKF-PL clubs, including the defending champions Gor Mahia, Tusker, and Leopards.
There are seven National Super League teams, eight Division One teams, and six County Clubs.
AFC Leopards will travel to face Zetech Titans of Division One in the first round, while K’Ogalo will begin their title defence campaign away to Division One team Kibera Soccer FC.
While KCB will be away to Michael Olunga-owned Mofa FC, Tusker will go to Garissa to take on Berlin FC (Division One).
