Chelsea lost 1-0 to Southampton but all fans on either side had to wait for more than 10 minutes for Azpilicueta to recover in the Premier League fixture
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicuta was hit hard in theface during the Premier League fixture between the Blues and Southampton. Azpilicueta was caught unintentionally by Saints player, Sekou Mara, during an overhead attempt on goal.
Chelsea head coach gave a statment after the fixture,
“He’s (Azpilicueta) in hospital, so he’s in the best place. He’s conscious and he was speaking to his wife so that’s good. We were obviously really concerned, especially when it first happened, but hopefully he’s in the best place and we’ll keep monitoring him.
“I think he was unconscious when it happened so we have to take all the precautions we need to take now and make sure he’s okay, but it was worrying. It was a horrible incident.”
It was a disappointing result for Chelsea but the Blues will be more at ease with thier skipper finally getting stable enough to be stretchered off the field, albeit after 12 minutes of treatment on the field.

Newcastle United controlled the opening exhanges between the two sides with Allan Saint Maximin giving a standout man of the match performance, with an effort tipped onto the post from Liverpool goalkeepr Alisson, 30 minutes into the game.
Speaking to SkySports Saint Maximin said, “I think we played very well. We had the first chance with Miggy [Almiron] and after that they scored straight away. It was painful, but we just kept going to try to create more chances. Even with 10 men, we kept playing very well. We still had many chances, so I think it’s very positive to see how we can play with 10 men.”
