A fantastic weekend for Rugby fans as Shujaa aim to bounce back from a dismal display, finishing last, at the Hong Kong Sevens
Dubai has hosted the Sevens Series since its inception in 1999, a colorful tournament, with plenty of top-tier rugby action and entertainment, and Shujaa are hoping to bounce back despite challenges on and off the pitch.
16 of the best men’s teams will face each other on Friday and Saturday, at the Sevens Stadium, for the popular Emirates Dubai 7s.
Shujaa have been in the spotlight in recent weeks following recent financial setbacks that led to a social media campaign by Willy Ambaka and Billy Odhiambo. Sports CS Ababu Namwamba intervened on Monday, noting the Government’s promise to deliver on their dues in time.

While the men’s series kicked off last month in Hong Kong, the women’s Series will kick off in Dubai. 12 women’s teams will participate.
Shujaa arrived in Dubai on Monday with Head Coach Damian McGrath who expressed disappointment in the financial setback but still noted his optimism, “It’s not usually the right environment to prepare for this magnitude of the Series but credit to the boys who have trained well this week. They have worked hard and want to do the country proud.”

Skipper Nelson Oyoo is positive Shujaa will be competitive this weekend, “We did not play well in Hong Kong due to factors beyond our control but I am glad things are being handled and we promise to do our best.”
