One person has died, and several were seriously injured after a Modern Coast bus plunged into a River on Wednesday, December 28.
The report showed that the Bus lost control and veered off the road in Masosa area before plunging into River Nyakomisaro, in Kisii County.
The company assured that all the passengers on board were rescued, with those who had sustained minor injuries being rushed to hospital.
“Today our bus from Mombasa to Homabay while reversing down a steep Maraam road in Kisii to park down a slope, hit a matatu. As a result, the driver panicked and the bus slid down and fell on its side into a ditch. All 43 passengers in the bus alighted safely and some with minor injuries were taken for treatment whilst others are continuing with their journey with a replacement bus. Contrary to reports circulating on social media, there were no passenger casualties,” the company said.
Kisii Central OCPD-Amos Ambasa witnessed the incident stating that the person who was killed in the accident was a pedestrian who was hit by the Bus before crashing into the river.
“The injured were rushed to Kisii Referral Hospital for further medical attention”, Said OCPD, Amos Ambasa.

According to the area Police, the bus was retrieved from River Nyakomisaro and pulled slowly to Kisii Police Station.
The body of the deceased is laying in the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Morgue.
A replacement of another bus was deployed with immidiate effect to cater for the travelling passengers who sustained minor injuries to continue with their journey.
