Five points between Premier League leaders Arsenal and Manchester City following the latter’s 3-1 win over Leeds United on Wednesday. Erling Haaland is inevitable!
Manchester City traveled to Ellan Road for their Premier League fixture against Leeds United. City striker Erling Haaland was the man-in-form before Messi and Mbappe stole the headlines, capping off a thrilling World Cup with an unforgettable final.
The Cityzens striker scored a brace on Wednesday night to give Manchester City hope of retaining their title and matching Manchester United’s record of three Premier League titles in a row, during the Sir Alex Ferguson era. Erling Haaland made history by becoming the fastest player to score 20 Premier League goals.
Haaland arrived last summer at Manchester City and despite not featuring at the World Cup, the Norwegian striker was quick to prove why he is the most lethal striker in the Premier League.
In the first half, Manchester City were wasteful in front of goal. Riyad Mahrez (5 chances created) and Kevin De Bruyne (4 chances created) were the creative force behind Manchester City’s attack.
Erling Haaland wasted two chances in the first half before the Cityzensfinally found the back of the net through Rodri, right before half time. The midfielder was in the right place when Leeds’s goalkeeper Meslier palms the ball from Mahrez’s shot to his feet. 1-0 City!
In the second half, it took just five minutes for City to double their lead. Jack Grealish on a swift counter-attack and unselfishly passed the ball to Haaland for him to score in an open goal.
The duo combined again in the 64th minute to seal the victory. De Bruyne finds Haaland who completes a one-two with the striker before his powerful shot proves too hot to handle for Meslier, who parries into the net. 3-0 City!
