On Tuesday, November 15 at around 2 pm, a six-storey residential building under construction in PCEA Area, Kasarani collapses leaving at least three people dead.
The construction works on the site had previously been suspended (via order S/No. 143383 dated September 20, 2022) by the National Construction Authority-NCA due to several non-compliance issues including the forgery of a project registration Certificate.
On the same day, Sylvester Oluoch, the site foreman was arrested and booked at Kasarani Police station. The developer on record for the construction is Joel Kamau Kibe.

NCA made an enforcement check on October 28, where another representative of the developer was arrested and arraigned in Court. The case is currently pending before the Makadara Law Court.
The building collapse revealed the construction was experiencing column failure based on visual observation. All persons were cleared from the construction site.
Unfortunately, some residents reportedly defied the order, and the structure collapsed on them hours later.
NCA has strongly condemned acts of irregular construction and defiance of suspension orders, which by law is punishable by up to three years imprisonment or a fine of Ksh1million. This disregard for construction laws and regulations continues to lead to the needless loss of human lives.
Rescue efforts for those who were believed to be trapped by the collapsed building are ongoing, a result of a multi-agency approach.

NCA will in the coming days conduct a detailed investigation in consultation with the other agencies in the built environment to establish the exact cause of the incident and make final recommendations regarding the next cause of action.
