Museveni’s son, Lt. General Muhoozi removed from army duty

Ugandan President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has fired his son, Lt. General Muhoozi Kainerugaba from his duty as army commander of Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF).

Through the information from the military source released on Tuesday, September 4, Kainerugaba has been removed from the office regarding the threats on Twitter to invade neighboring Kenya.

Kainerugaba however claimed the remarks were made in jest.

He is largely recognized as the de facto leader of the military and his father’s handpicked successor.

Amid removal as Uganda army commander, the military said Lt. General Muhoozi had been promoted from lieutenant general to full general and would remain a senior presidential adviser for special operations. It gave no reason for the decision.

On Monday, September 3, Muhoozi raised controversial retweets to the Kenyans on Twitter after stating that it wouldn’t take the Ugandan army two weeks to capture Nairobi.

Further, Muhoozi said that former President Uhuru Kenyatta would have won the election perhaps he wished to vie for the third time.

He said that President William Ruto’s predecessor had all techniques to get into power for his third term but spoiled the opportunity.

“My only problem with my beloved big brother is that he didn’t stand for a third term. We would have won easily!” he said.

However, he seemed to have calmed down on Tuesday, pleading with the numerous Kenyans who had criticized him on Twitter to let it go.

“I would never beat up the Kenyan army because my father told me never to attempt it! So our people in Kenya should relax,” Muhoozi tweeted.

He stated that he has no ill will against Kenyans who had stormed his Twitter page on Monday to criticize him for his delicate remarks.
