Citizen Tv’s Swahili anchor Lulu Hassan was named the category’s winner for Best Movie/Series Producer of the Year at the Zikomo Awards held on October 16, Lusaka, Zambia,
“We did it! Thank you guys…all the way from Zambia. Thank you Zikomo Awards, thank you for the recognition.” Lulu wrote.
Additionally, she shared images of herself and her Citizen Television coworkers clutching the prize trophy that had just arrived in the country.
“Tuzo imwasili nchini. Ahsanteni sana, sina la kwalipa ila dia tu. Kesho nitasema kitu (The award is finally in the country. Thank you very much, I don’t have a way to repay you except by offering prayers. Tomorrow I will say something),” Lulu added.
She received praise on Instagram from her husband, Rashid Abdalla, a fellow prime-time Swahili news co-anchor.
“If you do it with love, it will be loved but if you do it to be loved, you will be crushed. Congratulations Lulu Hassan, your efforts make East Africa proud.” Rashid posted.
The Zikomo Award Ceremony honours and recognizes people and groups that make beneficial contributions to a variety of fields, including the arts and humanitarian work.
Lulu has won two foreign prizes in recent months. This is the second. At the yearly Tanzanian awards ceremony in March 2022, she was also named Mwanamke Wa Shoka East Africa 2022.
She co-owns with her husband Jiffy Pictures, a production company that has produced a number of hugely successful Swahili telenovela series, including Zora, Maria, Sultana, Kovu, Pete, Aziza, and Moyo.
Their productions feature actors and actresses from all around East Africa, and they broadcast their content on many channels.
