Nairobi, Kenya, The Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC-KenGen has magnificently appointed Abraham Serem as the acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer as well.
Notably, the decision was strategically made by KenGen’s Board of Directors in its sitting on Friday, October 28, 2022.
Gearing up the process, Abraham Serem takes over from Rebecca Miano, who was appointed for the position of Cabinet Secretary for East African Community-EAC, Arid and Semi-Arid Lands, and Regional Development.
Serem has been the General Manager of Human Resources and Administration of the Company since March 1, 2016, when he joined KenGen.
On the other hand, Serem will be responsible for overseeing the transition process of the NSE – listed firm at a time when the entire country is undergoing its modern changes, following Kenya’s August 9, 2022, general elections which clinch a new ruling regime to power.
Speaking on Saturday, October 29, 2022, while making the announcement, KenGen Board Chairman, General (Rtd) Samson Mwathethe congratulated the outgoing MD and CEO for what he described as good work.
“Rebecca Miano led KenGen through an action-packed phase of steady growth which continued over the duration of her leadership, putting KenGen firmly on an upward performance,” Chairman Mwathethe said in a statement.
“Giving a green light aspect, her biggest test was perhaps the Covid-19 pandemic which showcased hardships on energy utilities across the world, but she was able to put things together and deliver highly ranked results, even at the peak of Covid-19 restrictions,” he stated.
Furthermore, the Chairman hailed Miano for unlocking KenGen’s diversification strategy and rolling out several multimillion drilling consultancy projects in the region such as Ethiopia and Djibouti, where KenGen currently has active geothermal drilling projects at large.
In addition, General (Rtd) Mwathethe said that the confidence set by the outgoing CEO will continue to a highly ranked in terms of outputs.

Finally, Rebecca Miano will be the 5th to exit the company since the unbundling of the energy sector in 1997 at a point when the generation side of the business-Kenya Power Company was hived off from the off-taker and renamed KenGen.
