The National Police Service Commission has relocated the former Director of Criminal Investigation boss, George Kinoti to the Public Service Commission docket.

According to a tweet from the NPS, the transfer is effective starting from September 27, 2022, and will last until the employee reaches the statutory retirement age.

“The National Police Service Commission has approved the transfer of services for Mr. George Kinoti, CBS, former Director, Directorate of Criminal Investigation, from the National Police Service Commission to Public Service Commission with remuneration and privileges personal to himself, with effect from 27th September 2022 until attainment of mandatory retirement age,” read the tweet.

The Commission further added that “The transfer is with effect from 27th September 2022 until the attainment of mandatory retirement age”

It is only two weeks after President William Ruto announced Kinoti’s resignation from the DCI office and announced that Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai had proceeded on terminal leave.

Ruto made the declaration on Tuesday, September 27 when he unveils his new cabinet secretaries in the State House, Nairobi.

“I have also received the resignation of the Director General of CID Mr. Kinoti,” said Ruto.

In consequence of Kinoti’s resignation, President William Ruto ordered the National Police Service Commission to declare a vacancy and advertise the position.

President Ruto asked the Police Service to find someone to stand in the capacity of the office, albeit in the presence of the Deputy Director of Criminal Investigations, Joseph Ashimala.

Kinoti’s imminent resignation was allegedly coinciding with President William Ruto’s accusations that Kinoti was used as an icon to weaponize the war over graft cases during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime.

Recently, deputy President Rigathi Gachagua slammed the former DCI, terming him a ‘drama queen’.

He went on to question Kinoti’s credibility, saying he was always in the media prosecuting Kenyans, while nothing came out of it.

Gachagua gave an example of the National Youth Service (NYS) where the DCI said that Sh9 billion had been stolen and someone was taken to court for Sh80 million.

“We had a DCI who was always in the press, he made a whole confusion about DCI. We want a professional DCI who will not spend his time on drama and the press, who will investigate cases properly, get evidence, take people to court and get a conviction,” he told Citizen TV.

“We want a DCI who will back the Inspector General. We want the IG to take charge.”
