Kiraitu Murungi joins Kenya Kwanza

Former Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi of the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) has opted to join President-elect William Ruto’s side that’s Kenya Kwanza Alliance.

This was confirmed after Kiraitu Murungi had sent his delegates from the party who were members of his county assembly to meet the former DP in his Karen home.

Despite having supported the Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga before the August polls the former Governor changing his mind on his allies has risen astonishment.

The former governor had lost his first election ever in the August 9th polls after an Independent Candidate Kawira Mwangaza led in the vote counts taking over as the first woman governor of the county.

He joins other leaders who had decamped to join the Kenya Kwanza Alliance; former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana and Mandera Senator-elect Ali Roba with his party the United Democratic Movement (UDM), and Ugenya MP David Ochieng and his Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG).

The president-elect has been enjoined by several parties and independent candidates from various parts of the country since his declaration as the winner of the August polls.

During their reception to Kenya Kwanza, the president-elect called on the need for togetherness as they head to making the country better for the people.

“We welcome the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) to Kenya Kwanza. Their resolve to work with us is an indication that leaders agree that the interests of Kenyans override our personal or party interests,” Ruto said.
