Former Minority Leader and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) chairman John Mbadi has expressed his disappointment in his fellow leaders after their failure to offer him the chance to lead as the Majority Leader in the National Assembly.
This was after the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party opted for Ugunja legislator Opiyo Wandayi as its candidate of choice for the position.
John Mbadi alleged foul play reminding his colleagues that he once led as a Minority Leader hence the eligibility for the role at hand.
“I was asked to shelve my gubernatorial ambition which I did. It will be unfair to deny the opportunity on the basis that I am nominated. I have a track record as a Minority Leader,” Mbadi revealed in a statement to NTV.
Even though the former Minority Leader won himself a nomination as a Member of Parliament, he points out having accepted to shelve his gubernatorial ambitions for the role he decries.
The cry of foul play within the party was confronted by Azimio leader, Raila Odinga, who urged the leaders who had missed out on the roles to remain focused on the party objectives.
“It can only go to one person at a time. If you don’t have it today you will have it tomorrow but be part of the team. I know that people want to be members of this committee or chairman and Majority Leaders. If you don’t get it, that is not the end of the world,” explained the former Prime Minister
Azimio’s Majority Leader in Parliament Wandayi is to be deputized by Kathiani counterpart Robert Mbui, while in the senate the majority leader will be Kilifi County Senator Stewart Madzayo deputized by Kitui Senator Enock Wambua.
With the Minority Chief Whip position, Isiolo Senator Fatuma Dullo was fronted and will be deputised by his Nairobi counterpart Edwin Sifuna.
