President Uhuru Kenyatta explained to the public the reasons why he undeniably refused to endorse his Deputy William Ruto to supersede him in the August 9 polls.

On Wednesday the head of state, met Provincial administrators and Abagusii elders at the Kisii State Lodge, where he re-opened his ferocious attack on the Kenya Kwanza Presidential Candidate, describing him as unsuitable for the top office.

The President said his squabbles with DP Ruto were unavoidable, he mentioned his deputy’s statement in the presidential debate, when Ruto was asked why he changed his mind on Value Added Tax on the fuel, to which the DP wittingly replied by saying: “Only fools do not change their minds.”

Uhuru used the DP’s statement in the Presidential statement on him to explain why he too had changed his mind about him.

“Ni ukweli ….ni mshenzi tu hawezi kubadilisha fikira… kwa hivyo hata mimi nimebadilisha fikira kwa sababu mimi pia sio mshenzi,” said President Kenyatta.

Uhuru went ahead demobilizing Ruto’s claims that their cause of falling out resulted from the handshake with Raila.

“Mimi wakiniingilia sijui tulifanya handshake na mzee mwingine… sasa hiyo handshake imeleta shida… sijui hakuna kazi inaendelea… jameni tumeweza kufanya mara tatu yale tulikuwa tunafanya wakati gurudumu zilikuwa zinang’olewa,” he said.

In addition, the President also guarded the choice he made to assign some duties under the Office of the Presidency to Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who was designated Chief Minister through Executive Order.

“Kutoka wakati niliweka huyu ndugu yangu kuwa chairman mikutano inaendelea…na sio mikutano ya kuuliza nani amepewa contracts …ni mikutano ya kuuliza kazi hii imefika wapi ili rais akuje afungue,” said the President.

The head of state also called for peace among the residents of Kisii county who had experienced unpleasant scenes supposedly caused by supporters of two brigades under Constituent parties in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, Uhuru asked the residents to maintain peace and cohesion in the last stages of the campaign to abscond voter apathy.

“Tunataka huyu mzee ashinde….huyu mzee hatashinda kama nyinyi mtagongana mpaka mtishe mwananchi na mwananchi aseme hiyo vita huko nje, mimi afadhali nikae nyumbani. Kila mtu aombe kura kwa amani. Kwa sababu uongozi ni kuhakikisha kwamba timu yako inashinda…sio wewe mwenyewe,” he said.

Kisii governor James Ongwae and Dagoretti North MP Simba Arati also shared the president’s sentiments by urging the area residents to maintain peace during and after the election period.

“Sisi tutafuata yale ambayo umesema ili tuhakikishe kwamba tunatimiza kura kwa Azimio,” said Ongwae.

“Tutatimiza amani kwa sababu kwanza tunakushukuru kwa kutuleta pamoja sisi viongozi kutatua maswala yetu…Kwa maana hatuna shaka kwamba kwa serikali ijayo maswala yetu yatashughulikiwa,” added Arati.

Later at the Gusii stadium, the President closed his tour in the region with a political rally at the Gusii stadium, where he urged the Nyanza region to support Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga in his bid.
