In addition, she mentioned that before enrolling in law school, she had taught at various levels despite having no formal training in education.According to Karua, her father disagreed with her choice to pursue a career in law since he believed that education was the greatest option, particularly for young girls at the time. Since he knew one of the attorneys who worked for the embassy, she said that her father disliked law because he believed that judges frequently traveled.“If I would not have become a lawyer, the next thing I would have become is a teacher, my father would have wanted that at the time,” she said. She claimed that her father also wanted her to become a teacher so she could take care of her family during the three months of paid leave that teachers receive.“His strong advice was that I should chose teaching as a first choice because as a female, I will need the three months holiday to bring my family together. He also thought mistakenly that time that lawyers travel a lot. He thought I could be posted out of the country because there was a lawyer who was attached at the embassy,” Karua said. She eventually persuaded her father that pursuing a career as a lawyer
was a wise decision and that most jobs, if not all, require travelling at one point or another.
