Veteran journalist Joe Kadhi is dead

Veteran journalist, Joe Kadhi, has passed away while receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital this morning, the family members announced.Joe Kadhi however will be buried later today as per the Muslim customs.Veteran Journalist Joe

Kadhi, who was heralded by many as the nation’s “godfather of print media,” had a distinguished media career and taught journalism at the Universities of Nairobi and Addis Ababa before heading to the United States International University- Africa where he retired after a 20-year stint. He was a distinguished media trainer and a seasoned editor who won a lifetime achievement award at the 2015 Media Council’s Annual Journalism Excellence Awards besides chairing the editorial board of the Media Observer magazine.“He was a great man. The phrase ‘publish and be damned’, his mastery of the cardinal role of objective reporting and the nuts and bolts of journalism will forever have a place in the history of media practice in Africa.”- Teddy Otieno, a journalist and a former student says. Deputy President William Ruto has eulogized Joe Kadhi attributing him as a father figure, especially in the field of journalism.“Joe Kadhi was a truly gifted, dedicated, and enthusiastic journalist who leaves behind an extraordinary body of work. Our thoughts and prayers to the family and the media fraternity. Rest In peace,” the Dp stated on his Twitter handle.Similarly, Journalist Linus Kaikai cheered Kadhi as a mentor, professional guardian, and legendary trainer.“Sad day. Veteran journalist Joe Kadhi has passed on. We have lost a mentor, professional guardian, legendary trainer, and pioneer of the golden generation,” Kaikai tweeted.
